This is a problem you hear about in Japan. It is called maaza-kon or “mother complex.” It is basically like saying someone is a mama’s boy. In some situations, the mother-in-law lives with the couple, but the mother and wife will clash. The two will not get along and the husband ends up taking the mother’s side. I guess it can be kind of hard on all sides. The mother has taken care of her son most of his life and another woman comes in and changes the dynamic. The wife is trying to establish her role as a wife for her husband and family. The husband who is torn between his mother and wife.
