Okay, this page is too cute! That aside, while they are sweet together, it seems so platonic. Even when he was dressed up and they were out on a date it was like two kids who were pretending they were on a date rather than a couple who was genuinely in love. Maybe I’m reading too much into it (and for the record, I’m not a MiharuXKazuo shipping either—he reminds me way too much of an ex who had daddy issues).
I agree they’re far too platonic. A nose kiss? Really? You give your man a proper smooch, Miharu!
I get the same friend/brother vibe.
You know. When Miharu and Kazuo first split, I was a little heart broken. Totally apprehensive on Makoto because of his early persistence, if only because I was initially rooting for Kazuo and Miharu.
But, over the past few chapters, I have totally fallen in love with Makoto. He’s adorable and so sweet, without being too over the top about it. I think he might really have been what Miharu needed. Someone who doesn’t question their feelings for her and whether their relationship is good or bad according to someone else. He has just the right level of uncertainty that I find endearing, because it seems like his only real fear is losing Miharu.
I still firmly believe that Miharu was a great thing for Kazuo. I’m not sure he would have made it through everything if she hadn’t been there in his life, even now as an “ex-girlfriend.” Even if things don’t work out in the long run, sometimes there are just certain people we need in our lives to see us through hardship. I know what that’s like, and I think that helps me appreciate the situation.
I love this comic and all of it’s story lines! I’m always excited to see what else is going on in all of the characters live, because I often find it relateable. I’ve been reading this comic for a little over 4 years now and I can remember that time line vividly because about four years ago, I was inspired by it, and the familiar tale about red string, to tie a red string into one of my boyfriend’s dreads. It’s still there today. <3
I agree with you on so many levels. I think Makoto and Miharu are a much healthier couple, and (in response to a few other comments) I actually like nose-kisses with my husband.
Not to disrespect others’ opinions, though…if it feels too friendly to you, then it just does. It doesn’t to me because I can relate on a romantic level.
I also agree with you about how some people are good for you even in intervals of your life–as exes, you were grateful to know them for the time. I think Kazuo needed her but wasn’t as good for her…so I hope they get to be happy separately.
She really does look good with her hair like this
Cute page! I’m still hanging on how Miharu x Kazuo will be resolved, but Miharu x Makoto is cute. I still get “friend zone/brother” when I read it, but it’s just a different kind of relationship than M x K. Some people can do the intensely passionate thing without it going toxic or crashing and burning, but the circumstances have to be pretty carefully calibrated. With M x M I feel like they can coast on their good friendship for as long as they need to. Again, still waiting for the M x K resolution (and possible rekindling?).
Nice buildup of the suspense by the way, Gina. “The false calm,” as we fiction-plotters call it.
See, some of the most amazing long term relationships I’ve ever seen are people that read like this. It take some time to build but they’re best friends as well as a couple. It’s a great recipe for a long lasting relationship from what I’ve seen. Maybe they’re not as crazy passionate as Miharu and Kazuo but it’s a lot more stable.
Agreed. I’d throw in my own little bit but you worded it so well already, I have nothing to add.
Thanks for putting that so perfectly! People say my HUSBAND and i are like this; cute and ‘best-friendy’ (direct quote). It makes for a good romantic relationship to have a good FRIENDship as well!
Bravo! Well said!
Agreed, we need to see some more action here! Then again, there’s nothing wrong with taking things slow I suppose
Just as long as it actually goes somewhere eventually!
Frankly, given what happened the last time there was “action”, I can see why Miharu would want to take it slow.
