I’m kinda surprised Tomi doesn’t meet Makoto’s suggestion with more cynicism:
“Ohhh, you mean graduating my awesome high school will lead to great opportunities? Like what? Being vilified by Kyoto’s catty high society? Having every guy I talk to treat me like a prostitute? Getting into a college I will be unable to afford? Tell me, patron saint of hair gel, what these great opportunities are, because I’m dying to know.”
I have to agree, he sounded like an after school special. The preachiness sounded so unnatural it made me squirm.
I agree she shouldn’t make such a decision lightly, but I would have dubbed him Mr. Truant Officer or something in her place.
grrr….i have finally caught up….*sigh* now i must wait………
In the US you can’t even get a job at a restaurant anymore without a high school diploma. So it seems worthwhile….
that’s not entirely true.
Well, yeah, but that’s why you go get a GED. I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to just take the GED and get the frak outta my high school early so I could go to college already. I probably could’ve done it with little consequences, but hindsight’s always 20/20.
Couldn’t you just graduate early? My mom did that and a few people at my school did that and it wasn’t from a GED. They just didn’t screw around. Also my state has a program called Post Secondary Education Opportunity where you can go to college free of charge your senior year if you have room in your schedule for it.
My high school did NOT offer the option to graduate early. I would’ve jumped on that like the last shotgun in the Zombiepocalypse if I had the option.
On the bright side, I did meet my husband in senior year so it’s probably better I didn’t graduate early.
That’s… uh. Hm. Wow. What a stupid school.

Getting and education is the best thing anyone can do. Leaving school early is, conversely, one of the worst. A lack of education leads to serious problems that could have easily been avoided…
just because someone ‘sounds like an afterschool special’ doesn’t mean they’re wrong. And yes, graduating from her upper-echelon high school will actually help her alot. And the guys treat her like a prostitute because THAT’S HOW SHE ACTS!
